S'Mores Restaurant & Bar @ Bangsar South

You may think this place serves marshmallows over flames (hence the name S'Mores) but in fact, S'Mores Restaurant & Bar is a pretty cozy place to catch up with your besties over drinks and delicious food (especially during football season!).

My girlfriends and I sat inside at first, but the noise level was beyond the maximum limit thanks to some family gathering that took up half of the restaurant inside. Since we could barely hear ourselves think, we cozied up outside (and it was a whole lot better too!).

Now, on to the food. For an appetizer, we had sausages wrapped in bacon (4 pieces per set) and it was good. The bacon was not too crunchy or too tough to chew and sausages, well what can you say about sausages? This was less than RM10 as were the other starters on the list including, fried calamari rings, anchovies, etc.

We also ordered Summertime Salmon Carpaccio (RM18) which was a blend of smoked salmon, onions, oranges, cherry tomato and salad leaves with hollandaise sauce. It was excellent for the price. The portions of salmon could have been more but I suppose for that price, they were pretty generous. If you're sharing, you might want to order more than 1 set because one person could just whack the whole thing!

The Ceasar Salad (RM18) was not too bad as well. It's a mix of grilled chicken breast slices, bacon, sourdough bread, cherry tomato and salad leaves with creamy sesame sauce. The portions are good enough for 2 persons to share.

One disappoinmnet we had was with the Porky Steak (RM23) - pork shoulder loin glazed with sweet and sour sauce. The pork was tender and juicy but I think the extra pineapple squeezed just made the taste much too sour-ish. Plus, the meal's second-hand look didn't exactly come off as appetizing. The only part of the meal that had us all licking our spoons, was the mashed potato that came on the side (very, very tasty!).

We ended the night with desert - Chocolate Mountain (RM8) which was a sinful mix of vanilla ice cream avalanched with thick chocolate melts. Yum!

It was so good that my friend's ice-cream-loving niece licked every last drop!

The whole bill came to RM98 (plus our non-alcho drinks that were about RM20) and the best part is there was no service tax or government tax imposed! That was probably coz we didn't have any alchoholic drinks but that's just my theory anyway. S'Mores Restaurant & Bar is located at The Sphere in Bangsar South.

My Dreamcatchers!

Finally I can blog about the latest addition to my ever-growing accessories - dreamcatcher earrings! I've always, always been crazy about dreamcatchers. In fact, I've got a miniature one hanging in my car. As for earrings, I would have preferred a smaller one but there was only this pair which retails for about RM50 plus at Diva.

The feathers may give you the idea that it's light but when I wore it, it was quite heavy on the ears but I like how I can feel the feathers swishing against my face *swish*. 

Scenic Route from Japan to China

Thanks to a tip from Rove Magazine, I found out about the below. Perhaps it is a bit foolish to use to track Japan to China using Google Maps but the below proves that Google can be quite creative on land (and sea!).

1. Go to Google Maps and click on Get Directions.

2. Enter the following:

     Starting Location (A): Japan
     Destination (B): China

3. Take a look at Step 42.

Evidence That Malaysians Have Not Evolved

Occasionally, we come across situations that make us think some Malaysians can be really self-centered but over time, we expect these educated people to be more civilized. Sadly, this was not shown last night at the main intersection in Kota Damansara (Casa Indah condo on the left and Kota Damansara straight ahead).

The heavy rain had knocked out the traffic lights and let's just say it was like a jungle out there. Cars from every direction, were basically trying to get across ANY way possible, up to the point where they would get stuck in a lock and after some time, one of these morons will have to reverse a few inches to let a car through.

It's insane!

I mean, is it so hard to have some amount of consideration and curtesy for others? Sure, you've been waiting in line and you're rushing to go somewhere but isn't everyone else?

Caramel honey and I were on our way to get some DVDs for the night and it took us about half hour just to get through the jam, as opposed to the usual 10 minutes! I was close to losing it when we got to the front on the line and we let some cars on the right go through (we were monitoring how cars on the left kept barging their way through) because just as we were inching our way forward, this car on the left blocked us in an attempt go across. The driver didn't even have the curtesy to show up his hand or anything for that matter. In fact, I got so pissed off that I almost got down from the car to be the one to direct traffic but the way the cars were going, they might just knock me down!

I've seen traffic lights knocked out in Subang and usually, the drivers are curteous enough to let some cars go through from each lane. It's common understanding that everyone needs to reach their destination and it only seems fair that they get their turn to go and not be a road bully.

Sigh. It's only been 4 days into 2011 and I have to experience this.
